As part of the Eastern North–South Expressway Construction Project (2017–2020 period), the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao section is one of the key routes receiving special attention from the Government and the Ministry of Transport. With a total length of 78.5 km, the expressway plays a vital role in connecting three provinces — Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan — and has a total investment capital of VND 8,925 billion.

ITD Technology Corporation is honored to be the trusted partner responsible for the supply, installation, training, and handover of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway Project, invested by Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway Joint Stock Company.

The North–South transport corridor plays a vital role in Vietnam’s economic development, spanning 32 provinces and cities, affecting over 62% of the country’s population, and contributing nearly 66% of the national GDP. The route connects four major economic regions — the Northern, Central, Southern, and Mekong Delta areas.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Eastern North–South Expressway Project for the 2017–2020 period was approved by the 14th National Assembly under Resolution No. 52/2017/QH14 dated November 22, 2017. The project includes 11 component subprojects with a total length of 654 kilometers, comprising 8 public investment projects and 3 public–private partnership (PPP) projects.

To date, 8 component subprojects with a combined length of 519 kilometers have been completed and put into operation, including 4 sections connecting Ninh Binh to Nghe An. The remaining sections — Dien Chau–Bai Vot, Cam Lam–Vinh Hao, and My Thuan 2 Bridge — are being actively implemented and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

With a number of special mechanisms approved by the National Assembly and the Government, 12 new component subprojects under the Eastern North–South Expressway Project (2021–2025 period) officially commenced construction on January 1, 2023, marking the next phase of Vietnam’s major expressway development plan.

The Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway stretches nearly 80 kilometers, reducing travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang to just 4–5 hours — half the duration compared to traveling on National Highway 1.

Due to its challenging terrain, the expressway includes a 2.2-kilometer Vung Mountain Tunnel located in Nhi Ha Commune, Thuan Nam District, Ninh Thuan Province, bordering Binh Thuan. This is the longest tunnel along the North–South Expressway, with a total investment of VND 1,600 billion.

The tunnel, constructed by Deo Ca Group, achieved breakthrough on both tunnel tubes in August 2023. For the left tube (from the southern direction), tunnel excavation has been completed 100%, tunnel lining concrete has reached 95%, and pavement concrete is over 65%. The remaining works are expected to be finished before March 30, 2024.

Recognized for its strong technical expertise and adaptability, ITD Technology Corporation is honored to implement the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for the Cam Lam – Vinh Hao Expressway, a project valued at VND 156 billion (approximately USD 6.3 million). Under this contract, ITD serves as the partner responsible for system supply, installation, and training.

As a complex and highly integrated system, the ITS applies advanced AI technologies and requires the seamless integration of equipment from multiple vendors and packages. The project also poses significant challenges due to the tight implementation timeline, aligned with the overall progress of the expressway construction schedule.

Another challenge faced during the project was the stormy weather of Central Vietnam, especially as the Lunar New Year approached. To tackle complex technological requirements within a short timeframe, ITD’s engineering team worked tirelessly for three consecutive months — often through the night — conducting research, analysis, and system development to deliver the most optimal solution that met all criteria of quality, schedule, and budget.
